Real questions we got asked at Session

What a privilege it was to be part of AUC Session this month! RMS joined friends and colleagues from across the Division and the AUC in the expo hall, where ministries had the chance to share resources, ideas, and encouragement.
For us, the best part was connecting with people face-to-face. We loved catching up with familiar friends and meeting new ones from all over Australia – each with unique roles and challenges. And of course, the highlight: answering your real-world questions.
Here are just a few that came our way. We thought the answers might be useful for you, too:
Q: I’m a chaplain, and I dropped my phone in a creek while on a school camp. Is that something I can claim?
A: It depends. If you’re on an interstate or overseas camp and you’ve taken out travel cover, then you can make a claim. But if you’re at your local campground, generally personal items aren’t covered. The exception would be if your employer has specifically requested Extra Risks cover for your mobile phone, or Employee Effects cover for your role.
Q: I’m the treasurer for my local church. How do I know if we have the right amount of cover in place? We just added a small extension.
A: Every church property is professionally valued at least once every five years. That report provides a detailed breakdown of replacement values. If your extension was completed after the last valuation, let RMS know in writing along with details about the extension including photos and plans, so we can update your records. RMS can also request our valuation partner to perform a desktop review of the valuation to ensure that the right amount of cover is in place. You can request a copy of your site’s property certificate of cover and valuation report anytime.
Q: I’m a volunteer at my church and we run a number of different programs during the week, we think we need a better system to keep track of keys, or maybe an upgrade to a keyless system?
A: It sounds like you could benefit from an access control system. The good news is RMS can help with co-funding for projects like this. You can apply at any time – check out our co-funding brochure for details.
Q: Does RMS go to other events besides Session?
A: Yes! We’ll go to the opening of an envelope if you invite us! 😉 Seriously though, we are more than willing to show up and support your event. We can deliver training and information sessions to relevant audiences, sponsor a risk or safety related guest presenter/trainer, or simply set up a booth and be available to answer questions. As a bonus, if you invite RMS to present a workshop or host a booth we’ll provide giveaways to help you show appreciation to your staff and volunteers.
Yes, these inquiries could have been emailed or phoned through. But there’s something special about a face-to-face chat – it opens doors, breaks down walls and helps us serve you better.
So, if you’d like to bring the RMS team’s knowledge (and good vibes!) into your next expo space, just say the word. We’re here exclusively for you.
