Lithium-ion Batteries and e-device safety

Charged devices are everywhere. From phones and laptops to e-Bikes and e-Scooters, lithium-ion batteries are powering the way we live, work and travel. Most of the time, they’re safe. But when things go wrong, the results can be devastating.
Fires linked to lithium-ion batteries are fast and notoriously difficult to extinguish. For ministries, churches, schools, aged care, campgrounds and hospitals, the impact of a single incident could be far-reaching: disruption to services, property damage, or, most significantly, serious injury.
The risk doesn’t just lie in the devices themselves, but also in how and where they’re charged. Charging in hallways, storing batteries near combustible materials, or leaving devices unattended overnight can all increase the danger.
The good news is that most of these risks are preventable. By understanding how lithium-ion batteries behave and by adopting safer charging and storage practices, organisations can significantly reduce the chance of an incident.
Awareness is the first step. So, we’ve developed two guides to support your ministry, just click the thumbnail below to download the resource:
These resources are designed to be shared broadly with staff, residents and volunteers to help them spot potential risks early and put safer practices in place.
